Alternative Anxiety Treatment Shows Promise

More adults than ever before are reporting increased anxiety. And they’re seeking ways to treat their anxiety without resorting to pharmaceuticals with side effects or adverse reactions. People looking for alternatives are finding a treatment in a common, safe, available and affordable vitamin. 

Using vitamin C to treat anxiety: does it help?

Promising answers are coming from new health studies demonstrating

vitamin C can help reduce anxiety symptoms. 

A controlled trial published in the National Library of Medicine found that vitamin C supplementation significantly reduced anxiety in participants. The study found that vitamin C was able to reduce anxiety in participants. 

The authors of the study wrote that the, “results not only provide evidence that vitamin C plays an important therapeutic role for anxiety but also point a possible use for antioxidants in the prevention or reduction of anxiety. This suggests that a diet rich in vitamin C may be an effective adjunct to medical and psychological treatment of anxiety.”

The Mayo Clinic suggests vitamin C may be helpful to improve your mood, “even for people who aren’t known to have low vitamin C levels, taking a vitamin C supplement might help mood. In some studies, participants reported that vitamin C lowered their anxiety levels.”

Another new health study has found that vitamin C may help reduce anxiety. A controlled trial found vitamin C promoted mental vitality in participants.

The study’s participants were given either a placebo or a vitamin C supplement, and the researchers found that the group who took the vitamin C supplement experienced significantly less anxiety than the placebo group. 

The data showed vitamin C significantly increased concentration with a distinct tendency of improvement on fatigue and comprehensive work engagement. The subjects supplemented with vitamin C showed better performance than those in the placebo group.

The study concluded, “Inadequate vitamin C status is related to a low level of mental vitality. Vitamin C supplementation effectively increased work motivation and attentional focus and contributed to better performance on cognitive tasks requiring sustained attention.”

There is now scientific evidence that vitamin C can help treat anxiety. Vitamin C is a simple, safe and inexpensive supplement that could potentially help a lot of people.

Some other benefits of vitamin C include its ability to promote wound healing, improve immune function, and reduce the risk of some chronic diseases. Additionally, vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that can help protect against cell damage.
